Sponsored by The Therapy Center at BGSP, this is a hybrid event. Participants may attend in-person at BGSP (1581 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA) or via Zoom.
This is the first event in the Fall 2026 Community Learning Series: Am I the Worst Parent in the World? The Challenges of Raising Children in 2026.
The First Five: Parenting with Confidence in the Early Years
“The days are long, but the years are short.” There’s a reason this phrase is often repeated to new parents. From newborn to age 5, it seems that every day brings both the exhaustion of caring for a small child; the joyous wonder of growth, change, and remarkable milestones; and the constant question of “am I doing this right?” Join us for a discussion of how a better understanding of your child from their earliest days can enhance your confidence in parenting and the joy of each small moment.
Discussion Leaders
Tara Goldberg, Psya.D. is a psychoanalyst practicing in Northampton and Boston, MA. In addition to her private practice, she teaches and supervises at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and the Vermont Institute for the Psychotherapies. Dr. Goldberg received her psychoanalytic training at BGSP in the modern tradition, which emphasizes learning to tolerate and talk about all feelings so that life feels easier for some, more meaningful for others, and generally greater for all.
Julina Rundberg, MA received her Master’s in Psychoanalysis from BGSP and has continued her psychoanalytic training in the Doctor of Psychoanalysis program, where she sees people in The Therapy Center. Her training in developmental steps of the maturation process has enhanced not only her work with children and parents in her private practice, but in her own experiences as a parent as well.
Lynn Perlman, Cert.Psya., Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and certified psychoanalyst, while also serving as the Dean of Graduate Studies and on the faculty at BGSP. With over 50 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups, she has a private in-person practice in Brookline and Newton, as well as a remote practice for those not local. Dr. Perlman works with families to help them create a cooperative atmosphere, in which all participants can flourish.
